Mombo and Little Mombo Camps Mombo Camp is located on the western edge of Chief’s Island, the largest piece of dry land in the Okavango Delta. Due to its unique environment, year-round game-viewing here is some of the best in Africa. The well-deserved reputation of Mombo and its attached sister camp Little Mombo, for providing unsurpassed and often action-packed game-viewing, means that these two camps are amongst the most in-demand room nights in Africa. The central landmass of Chief’s Island, upon which Mombo lies, provides the epic dry-land wildlife viewing and is surrounded on all sides by a glistening expanse of papyrus-lined waterways and wetlands. After enjoying predator action from the vehicles, back at camp elephants, buffalo and hippo can be observed wonderfully close wading in the clear waters just in front of the main areas. Quite often the big game predator action finds its way into the camp’s very environs, with lion hunts sometimes being observed from Mombo’s boardwalks and decking, as well as resident leopards taking siestas in nearby trees. This is all down to chance however, and part of the unpredictable ebb and flow of the wilderness, but the feeling that at any moment something interesting can spark up in the bush makes it a very exciting stay. The real value of Mombo is its isolated, blissful location away from the outside world and the sense that it is right in the heart of some of the richest game-viewing in the world.
