The North American continent still contains some of Earth’s most pristine and spectacular wilderness areas. With a selection of innovative properties and experiences from which access the wild forests and rivers, Rocky Mountains, glaciers and permafrost belts, North America is often overlooked as a traditional wildlife experience.

However it is hard to beat the sheer exhilaration of the isolation felt when flying into the vast Wrangell-Elias National Park on the Alaska-Canada border, looking down on Grizzly bears who are so remote that they have never seen humans before. Or the sense of wilderness felt when watching a pod of killer whales hunting next to your luxury charter yacht along the forested Pacific coastline.

On foot, it is possible to view Black, Grizzly as well as Polar bears during a single tailor-made trip to the region. There is also a diversity of other species within the same territories, namely wolves and Caribou observed from the air, and humpback whales from the boats.

Walking amongst the ancient old growth forests of Vancouver Island, mountain biking out of luxury lodges in bear country, the adrenaline of taking a small boat up to the calving glaciers on the Alaskan coast or hiking in Banff’s deep blue lake country can all be tailored into a bespoke journey. British Columbia’s rushing rivers support healthy Grizzly populations and there are special places where bears can be observed salmon fishing and interacting. Whistler’s environs for hiking and heli-skiing at Bella Coola offer well-known but undoubtedly high quality experiences to add in to an itinerary.

Yellowstone National Park in the winter offers the chance for guided snowmobile trips and viewing wolf packs initiating a bison hunt, as well as gushing geysers throwing steaming hot water up into the snowy wilderness.
