Luxury Safaris in Madagascar Madagascar is a highly distinctive landscape with an endless selection of unique flora and fauna to keep even the mildest wildlife enthusiast entertained. Moving from one region to another, the climatic conditions change almost as fast as the species and vegetation list. The eastern forests are buffered by humid air coming in off the Indian Ocean, creating a rainforest environment full of weird and wonderful chameleons and plants. In places, the verdant green forest tumbles down to the beach, bringing with it an array of lemur species. The western dry forests are where some of the remotest and untouched regions of the country are found, such as the iconic Tsingy de Bemaraha landscape of limestone karsts. Here you might see a bounding lemur family carefully negotiating the sharp spikes to move to a new pocket of forest. Lemur-spotting in the Tsingy Forests is great fun and there is also the chance to spot an elusive Fossa. In the South the dry baobab forests are interspersed with winding river beds, making their way languidly towards the most pristine part of Madagascar’s coastline, and some terrific safari and kayaking amongst authentic local tribes. Anjajavy in the north-west is a great combination of beach, lemurs and forest, and there are a couple of surprisingly high end boutique beach properties in the stunning islands off the north coast.
