Cape Town & Winelands The Cape Peninsular has a huge amount of variety packed into it to make it a fantastic place to spend at least a few nights. The ocean supports great white sharks and penguin colonies, Cape Town itself is beautifully located, with the imposing Table Mountain rising behind it, and its appealing protected walking routes. The urban side of Cape Town is chic and fashionable, housing some of the world’s finest restaurants on its pretty Waterfront. There are high quality accommodations with charm and an interesting history, as well as a range of accessible outdoor activities that can be booked easily. Visiting Mandela’s former prison location on Robben Island by boat, climbing Table Mountain and dining in one of Cape Town’s great seafood restaurants make up a typical day. There is a wide choice of boutique guesthouses or larger hotels to stay at with great views of the harbour and the Mountain. If you prefer to be further out, the southern suburbs of Cape Town offer direct access to lovely wild beaches. Hiking, horse riding and paragliding can be easily organised within the Cape’s spectacular scenery. Northeast of the town, the Cape Winelands offer rolling vineyards in gorgeous valleys, dotted with elegant upmarket guesthouses. The fine dining and wines combined with very pretty walks and high end hospitality make a lovely contrast in environment to Africa’s wilderness areas. Franschhoek deserves a couple of night’s stay to relax and eat and drink some of the finest food and wine in the country. Stellenbosch, another town in the area, has a rich mix of history and appealing architecture.
