Kruger & Sabi Sands Bordered by Mozambique to the East and Zimbabwe to the north, the Greater Kruger Region is a huge ecosystem with some excellent game-viewing areas. The busyness of the south central areas can be avoided by enjoying the much higher quality safari to be had in the private reserves to the west of the main park. With incredibly dense predator and prey concentrations spilling out of the greater Kruger ecosystem, these well-guided lodges of the private reserves benefit form top wildlife combined with low numbers of visitors. The best private reserves to the west of Kruger are those on the eastern edge of this western strip, for the simple and important fact that there are generally no fences between them and the enormous greater Kruger wilderness to the East. This allows the reserves the benefit from the movement of wildlife in and out of the land, but with none of the busy tourist traffic that comes with it elsewhere. Sabi Sands to the south-east of this western strip has made a name for itself in the quality of its supremely luxurious camps, big cats and pretty scenery. The Timbavati reserve is another high quality option.
