Serra Cafema Camp Serra Cafema Camp seems to bring up so many superlatives in language when describing its surrounding landscapes. It really deservedly has the reputation for occupying one of the most exciting wildernesses in the world, due to its epic mix of dunes, mountains, valleys and perennial river Kunene powerfully carving its way through enormous mountains of sand. The Kunune divides Angola from Namibia and the imposing black granite mountains to the north can be seen shimmer mesmerizingly into the distance. This wild, spectacular region can be explored with guide from Serra Cafema Camp, on quad bikes, vehicle safaris and walks. The real surprising aspect to north-west Namibia is the sheer amount of big game and this is the result of a virtually non-existent human population apart from the iconic Himba tribespeople, who have wonderful characteristics. Here and there a rare brown hyena will slink off into the distance or the distant roar of a desert lion will permeate the silence. The reality is that less than twenty guests have access to over 16,000 square kilometres to explore, and with some very engaging guides, this is one of those African experiences not to be missed. The Hartmann Valley is min-boggling in its size and beauty, stretching right up to the Kunene River. The super luxury nature of Serra Cafema works well as a contrast to the hot, harsh landscapes, and the enormous rooms look out over the river with great outside showers. On top of the expeditions by quad-bike and vehicle guests can take a motorised boat along the river which contains some of the largest crocodiles in Africa, and have a picnic on the Angolan banks. Arguably, Serra Cafema is the best camp in Africa.
